The village of Cserepvaralja in the South Bukk mountains is between the towns of Eger and Miskolc and famous for its cave dwellings. Today some of these unique cave houses act as museums. Poverty forced farmers and cave workers to live here around the millennium.
The reason farmers lived in these caves because the rhyolite can be easily carved. Today the spinner can be visited with its spinning equipment such as the loom. As well as the house with the basement, the barn the living room and the porch. With this unique experience visitors can learn about the lifestyle of the people of Bukkalja. Since 1987 the cave dwellings open to visitors.
