More information

Buda Castle is the most beautiful castle complex of the Hungarian kings and part of the Unesco World Heritage Site since 1987. First completed in 1265 by King Bela IV of Hungary between 1247 and 1265. Around the keep, a small town called Buda started to grow. It was under King Sigmund’s reign when the castle was enlarged, he also strengthened the fortifications around the palace.

If you look down from the Castle you have the most beautiful panorama overlooking the Danube. Every year several festivals being organised here, such as the wine festival, beer festival, palinka festival or the festival of folk arts just to name a few.

The castle was built on the southern tip of Castle Hill, bounded on the north by what is known as the Castle District (Várnegyed), famous for its Baroque and 19th-century houses, churches, public buildings, cobled stone walking streets and restaurants. It is linked to Clark Adam Square and the Chain Bridge by the Castle Hill Funicular.
